It's been a long time coming, perhaps way longer than it should have taken, but the late Whitney Houston has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That's right. One of our favourite Divas finally gets the recognition she deserves!

In a vote that saw over 1,000 members of the music industry partake in, Houston will be included in the distinguished list of names being added to the Hall of Fame for 2020.

Sharing the news, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame called Houston "the greatest singer of her generation."

In addition to Houston, other inductees for 2020 include the likes of Depeche Mode, The Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G., and T. Rex.

The artists will be celebrated in a special ceremony on May 2 in Cleveland, where the iconic hall and associated music history museum is located.

Houston released her debut album, Whitney Houston, back in 1985, making her a top contender for the Hall of Fame over the past decade. The highly prestigious award received criticism in the past for its lack of diversity, last year's inductee Janet Jackson used her acceptance speech calling for more inclusion. While co-inductee Stevie Nicks also criticised the Hall of Fame for its lack of female artists.

The announcement that Houston is being inducted into the legendary Hall of Fame is a significant step forward in diversity and representation. Considering how many female artists regularly top the charts, there should be more, and I hope in the coming years we'll see their names added to the list.

Go Whitney!
