The Love, Simon spinoff series set to premiere later this year on Disney+ has found its leading man. The upcoming show is inspired by the 2018 film adapted from Becky Albertalli's novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapien's Agenda.

The film gained instant acclaim for being one of the first mainstream teen romantic comedies from a major studio focusing on a same-sex romance. Now its story looks to be expanded even further on Disney's upcoming streaming service. Set in the same world as the film and Albertalli's novels, the series will star Michael Cimino in the lead role.

The Annabelle Comes Home actor will star as Victor, "a new student at Creekwood High School on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation."

When things start getting a little touch, he reaches out to Simon to help him "navigate the ups and downs of high school." Nick Robinson will be returning as the film's titular character, Simon, and will also serve as the narrator of the series. Currently, there is no word if any of the other original cast will be making appearances.

Writers of the original film, Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are also returning to executive produce the series for Disney+

"Writing Love, Simon was one of the most profound and enjoyable experiences of our careers to date, and we are beyond thrilled that we get to revisit this world and tell the story of Victor, a brand new Creekwood student, and his family and friends," the pair said in a statement.

"We have a phenomenal group of writers with tremendously personal connections to the material crafting our episodes, and have assembled a dream team cast and crew to bring these stories to life, and cannot wait to share what we're working on with the world."

As someone that loved the original, I just hope that the writers can recapture the same amount of heart and soul that made the movie such a profound and relatable hit.
