There is so much news coming out of San Diego Comic-Con we can barely contain ourselves with all the excitement.

Just check out Phase 4's slate of upcoming movies and TV series that will all tie into Marvel's groundbreaking cinematic universe.

While we're living for all the news coming out of Comic-Con. It does seem like one piece that's been overshadowed amongst the onslaught of Marvel's announcements, and that is to do with Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie.

It's now official. Thompson's Valkyrie, who is set to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, will be the first openly LGBTIQ hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Thompson previously revealed she had portrayed the character as bisexual in Thor: Ragnarok. Initially, there was a scene referencing this in the movie, but it didn't make the final cut of the film. The actress has not been shy about wanting that aspect of Valkyrie's life to be represented on the big screen saying earlier this year,

"In the canon, (Valkyrie) is bisexual. You see her with women and men, so that was my intention in playing her. Obviously, at the forefront of most of these stories is not typically their romantic life. They have big stakes, like saving the world, so that tends to sort of trump."

Now it looks like Thompson will get the opportunity. She revealed that her upcoming story arc in the Thor sequel would include her character finding a queen to rule New Asgard beside her.

"The answer is yes," Kevin Feige when asked to confirm the news about LGBTIQ representation in the upcoming sequel. "How that impacts the story remains to be seen with that level of representation you'll see across our films, not in just Thor 4."

This is exciting news and also a beautiful sign of the diverse representation to come in the beloved MCU. Not to mention the inspiring impact that this will have on queer youth all over the world as the MCU continues to introduce LGBTIQ characters on to the big screen.

We may still have a while to wait before Thor: Love and Thunder hits cinemas on November 5th, 2012. But it's great news to hear that Taika Waititi will be back in the directing chair reuniting Chris Hemsworth and Thompson. We just hope they make room for Mark Ruffalo's Hulk!
