Sam Smith's latest single is to die for, and that just so happens to be the name of it as well.

Smith dropped "To Die For" on Friday, and it's the title track their upcoming third studio album. The heartbreaking ballad features a sample for the 2001 cult classic film Donnie Darko.

"Releasing this song is going to be a wild one," the openly non-binary singer previously said in a statement, "I feel like it's from one of the deepest parts of me."

"I wrote this with Jimmy Napes and Stargate in LA during a time of self-discovery and heartbreak. This is for all the lonely hearts out there on another Valentine's Day xx."

"I'm more proud of this album than anything I've ever done," Smith posted on Instagram, "I've really set myself free the last two years whilst writing this & I hope you can dance and relate to these stories."

The "To Die For" video was directed Grant Singer, and is set in a Los Angeles wig shop where Smith plays a wigless mannequin head in the window, watching on as life and love go by.

The latest single is a follow up to Smith's cover of Donna Summer's iconic disco classic "I Feel Love." The album To Die For is set for release May 1.
