We've got amazing news! After months of speculation, Zombieland 2 is officially happening. If that wasn't exciting enough. We can confirm that the original core cast, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin will all be reprising their roles from the original.

Ruben Fleischer who directed the first film is back on board to direct the movie that fans have waited nearly decade to be made. Original Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are also returning to writing duties hot off the success of their Deadpool flicks. While the writers had previously spoken about the possibility of Zombieland 2, this is the first official announcement that it will actually be a reality.

Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch has released a statement about the sequel noting that nobody wanted the film to happen more than its original stars.

"This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time - and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse, and Abigail. These are some of the most in-demand actors and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing."

According to reports, Zombieland 2 will reportedly focus once more on the "comic mayhem," will see our favourite quartet making their way from the White House to the American heartland as they continue to go up against a variety of new types of zombies that have evolved over the years. There will also be the introduction of a few more human survivors as well.

Zombieland 2 is set to begin filming in January 2019 with an official release on the 19th of October to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Zombieland. We can expect more news and casting announcements in coming months.
