Last year's Wonder Woman is by far the best film to come out of Warner Bros. recent attempt at creating a DC cinematic universe and is probably the only installment in the series that has stopped the studio from wiping the slate clean and starting all over again.

Today we get some pretty exciting casting news that Kristen Wiig will be taking on the role of Wonder Woman's arch-nemesis, the Cheetah in the upcoming sequel.

Rumours were flying through Hollywood last week that director Patty Jenkins was considering the actress for the role, and as of today, the director has taken to Twitter to share the official announcement.

“So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can’t wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned.”

As it has been with most comic characters, there's been several incarnations of the Cheetah, but it seems that Kristen Wiig will be playing Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva, a British archaeologist who after an ancient ritual goes bad, finds herself taking shapeshifting powers, superhuman speed and sharp claws. As long as she doesn't end up like that lackluster The Enchantress from Suicide Squad, I won't be complaining.

Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot also added her two cents worth saying the news was "WONDERful."

Yes, we all see what you did there. Oh Gal, you're so punny!

There's been no title announced for the sequel as of yet, but it is due to be released December 2019, and with Patty Jenkins returning to direct, I reckon we'll have another hit on our hands!
