The ABC has finally released the trailer for its upcoming telemovie Riot. The film is inspired by the events surrounding the first Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras that took place on the 24th of June back in 1978.

Riot explores "the lives of the passionate individuals who were unwavering in their fight for decriminalisation, recognition and equality". Something makes me think we're are going to need a box of tissues for this one.

Written by Greg Waters and directed by Jefferey Walker, the cast includes Aussie heart-throb Xavier Samuel, Damon Herriman, Kate Box, Jessica de Gouw and few more of Australia's up and comers. Filmed in Sydney there's a high chance you're also going to see a few familiar faces.

Riot will air Sunday 25 February, 8.30pm on both ABC TV and ABC iview to mark the 40th-anniversary of the 1978 protest.
