I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Aquaman. With the exception of Wonder Woman, the DC cinematic universe has been somewhat disappointing compared to the quality of films that Marvel has been releasing.

The just-released final trailer for Aquaman does give me hope. It's got everything from kick-ass action to beautiful visual sequences reminiscent of Avatar. But this is what has me worried. Have they thrown all the best bits of the film into the trailer?

The James Wan directed film will reveal the origin story of half-human and half-Atlantean Arthur Curry while taking him on a journey of a lifetime that will not only force him to face who he really is but also force him to discover if he's worthy to be king.

Jason Momoa returns to the titular role and is joined by Amber Heard as Mera. The film also stars Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Partick Wilson as Orm, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, while Temeura Morrison and Nicole Kidman will play Arthur Curry's parents Tom and Atlanna.

It has an all-star cast which should count for something right? But then again so did Justice League. I'm personally really holding out for Aquaman and hope the film will actually make big enough waves at the box office to finally put the DC cinematic universe back on the right path.

Check out the final trailer below.

If anything, having Momoa running around shirtless and wet will at least be worth the ticket price.

Aquaman splashes into cinemas December 21.
